According to the Postmaster-Gene-ral, deposits in 'the State (Savings Bank of New Zealand increased during the last 12 months by over £1,000,000, and have now passed the £49,000, 000 mark. There are three-quarters of a million depositors in these hanks, or over fifty per cent, of the coimtryks population This is exclusive of 135, 000 depositors in private banks. This is a very cheerful fact (remarks a writer in the “Auckland Star '). It shows that, slowly but surely, our economic position is being strengthened and that more and more we are becoming immune against the ravages of panic and general business disaster. One reason why New Zealand is so seldom shaken bv crisis which undermine the world’s commercial peace is that she has the most strongly entrenched proportion of small investors and depositors that any country can show. Verily the hand that saves the penny is the hand that rules the world. CHILBLAINS. Bad circulation is primarily the cause of chilblains. Tlic circulation can be promoted by plenty of outdoor exercise, which, with the external application of Chamberlain’s Pam Balm, will work wonders.
