COST OF CABLE MESSAGES

MELBOURNE, June 2. ’ In his annual report to the Australian section of the Empire Press Ufcion, Sir James Fairfax said that, although substantial reduction had been nffide in the full ordinary rate for cable messages, the Press had not shared in the reduction. Further efforts were, however, to be made in this direction, and it was hoped that the Press, as the largest users of the cable service, would be allowed to share in the concession already granted to the commercial community. The chairman said that it was hoped to have the beam wireless service' between Australia and Canada in operation shortly. Mr Campbell Jones re. ferred to the necessity of the linking up by wireless with Australia of all British possessions. A motion was carried that the Federal Government should be urged to take action in this direction.
