JY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, anc 1. The effort to settle the coal trimmers.’ strike has reached a deadlock. The crews of a. large number of colliers were paid off to-day, and the pit ponies at several of the mines brought to the surface and turned into paddocks.

As a result of the Newcastle coal trimmers’ strike, the intei-State shipping companies have paid off the crews of sixteen colliers and tied the vessels up- .
