RATES IN NEW SOUTH WALES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 1 p.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Aug 9. Addressing a meeting at Canowindra, in reply to questions ns to why the Government accepted private companies’ rates under the Workers’ Compensation Act, instead of the Queensland Government’s figures, Mr. LoughJin, Minister of Lands, said that compared with the Queensland rates those in New South Wales were ridiculously and ii.umenselv high, and certainly would he reduced. Air. Hoad, a. Labour member, said that the Premier (Air. Lang) was personally responsible for the acceptance of the private rates without consulting the party. It was undoubtedly a mistake. An inquiry was proceeding in order to ascertain to what extent the rates could lie reduced.
