HAWERA DAIRY COMPANY.

ANNUAL MEETING

BUSINESS CONCLUDED

The thirty-first annual meeting of shareholders of the Ha-weara Co-opera-tive Dairy Company concluded at 1.30 p.m . to-day. Following the address (reported on page 12) of the chairman, Mr J. R. Corrigan, a number of questions were presented. Answering an inquiry, the .secretary explained that depreciation in. respect, of a motor delivery truck used, in connection with the home separation had not been charged to this department, as it represented part, of the general assets. “Do vou intend putting in a pasteuriser at Tawhiti this year ?”■ was another question. “Wo Are putting in one at Fra.scr —/Road, hut to put them in every fae- ■ tory at once would! mean an expenditure of £5000,” replied the chairman. He added that the idea of the directors was to inaugurate the scheme gradually, and the factories where pasteurisation was most needed! would receive attention first. He further stressed the necessity on the part of suppliers to send milk in as pure a condition as possible to the factory. Without, good grade milk, the manufacture of a good grade article was not possible. This was the more essential in the case of milk for cheese than for butter, as flavours were the more easily remedied in butter-making. “If you give turnips or other artificial food to the cows put it out overnight in order to give, it A chance to unit. Then it will not be so likely to cause flavour as it would be if given the cows just before milking,” he said. Mr A. 'L. Campibei l ! explained that the decision to provide pasteurisers at Fraser Road had been arrived at, not because of any particular defects in the milk sent " there, but because the least exuense at present would be incurred there. Mr Standish moved that it he A .recommendation to the directors to keep the butte'- and cheese-making buildings at Glover Road separate in. the accounts.

The chairman pave th>e opinion that such would entail unnecessary bookkeeping, and did not warrant the distinction. It was more satisfactory to keep the accounts grouped. The motion was seconded, but was lest on being put to the meeting, after the chairman had explained that factory had paid; for itself in six months, only the moven and seconder voting in the affirmative. ‘‘Our cheese is all white, and_ white Is at premium at present,” said the chairman in rep I}’ 1 }’ to an inquiry concerning the prospects of the cheese at present unsold. Mr G. H. Buckeridge stated 1 that the present quotes were 84s to 86s for coloured, and 88s for white. The chairman further explained that between 1300 and 1400 crates were unsold. When the stocks were disposed of the effect on the price per lib' of butter-fat would probably be an eighth of a penny, but certainly not more than id on thg pay-out estimated if the remruider of the cheese sold .at 92s 6d. The motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was ’carried. Nirjty were present when the motion was put to the meeting. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Messrs A. L. Campbell, H. E. Johnson, W. H.
