RE-ORGANISING CUSTOMS DEPARTMENTS.

OTTAWA, Aug. 4
The Ottawa Journal says: ‘‘ln a Dominion clean-up, affecting nearly evory port of entry and many principal cities from coast to coast, the Government will carry out extensive reorganisation of the departments of customs and excise.”
R. L. Calder, Government counsel at Montreal, has confirmed the reports that a writ has been issued against Dominion distilleries on a charge arising from the customs investigation of defrauding the Government of a sum believed to be in excess of 700,000 dollars.
It is learned that instructions have been issued to launch actions involving a sum in the neighbourhood of two million dollars, against all firms and persons alleged to be concerned in the defalcations revealed by the official investigation.
