BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT. Received 12.25 p.m. to-day. SIDNEY. Aug. 5. The Labour caucus housing committee has framed a import regarding the provisions of homes for workers. 'the main, principle® ana that the State shall (1) Advance to the approved; applicants the capital cost of the* new homes, iepa vable hv instalments; (2) c-stab’ish a’ Government life insurance., taking the policy as a security for the amount owing; (3) in. the event of death, the widow or dependents would have a home free ol encumbrance. The deposit to be paid by the applicant i-s to bp governed by salary . A man earning up to £250 per annum is to payno deposit; a man earning front £250 to £3OO is to pav 5 per cent., the deposit graduating upwards till thfl man worth an income of over £IOOO shall pay a deposit of 25 per cent. The probah’o! weekiy payment to cover repayment of capital and interest is not mentioned, but it is pointed out- that in Queensland the weekly payment for a. £SOO house is ISs 3d. The committee recomnieiKls that tho control cf the budding should be placed ond Government influence, but that the Government, through its officers, will be responsible for the faithful carrying out of the, work. It recommends also that a fair proportion, of the houses be bui't of concrete.
