NORMANBY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) V TOWN BOARD MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Town Board there were present: Commissioners C J; Preston (chairman), C. Goad, and A. Mills. A letter wits received from tiie Te Awamutu jßorougli Council inquiring ii tlie Town Board had ever considered the question of forming a- lire board. — The clerk was instructed to reply that the question had never been discussed. Mr. W. J. JTri-stxam, secretary or the Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association, wrote stating that the board had been accepted as a member of that body. A letter was received from Mrs. B. Gane and three other residents, drawing attention to the state of portion of Eigmont Street, and asking that the unmetalled portion be metalled as soon as possible.—lt was decided to regrade the portion complained of during the summer months, and in the meantime the foreman would be instructed to carry out necessary repairs. The chairman gave notice that he would move at next meeting that the resolution passed at the last meeting in regard to the closing of the railway crossing from Atkinson Street to Wallscourt Place be rescinded. Accounts to the amount of £34 13s 4d were passed for payment.
HORTICULTUPAL SOCIETY. Despite the inclement weather there was. a good attendance at a meeting held on the 14th inst. The president, Mr. B. C. Gibson, occupied the chair. A large amount of routine business was dealt with, and ways and means were discussed by which the society’s financial position might he improved. It was finally decided to hold a concert and dance some time next month. Mr. P. Tippett applied for the use of the hall for skating purposes one night weekly.—The application was granted. The entertainment committee is to be asked to assist the Hawera Pipe Band at a dance to be held in the Normanbv Town Hall on Friday, June 2-5, fox the purpose of raising funds for the band. SCHOOL FOOTBALL. A match between Matapu and Normanby school teams was played in Victoria. Park on Thursday afternoon, the Normanbv team winning by 16 to nil. Play was not as uneven as the score indicates. The Matapu boys narrowly missed scoring. Bennett scored two tries and Rowe and Hori one each for the winners. Two were converted by Hori.
