(From Our Own Correspondent). ANNUAL HOCKEY BALL. Once again the people of Manaia and district are to be treated to a really sparkling entertainment, for this season’s ball,- under the auspices of the ladies’ and men’s combined clubs, promises to fully maintain the reputation earned bv previous year’s functions. A perfect floor for dancing, appropriate music by Boulton’s professional orchestra of five instruments, and a splendid supper will combine in making the hall what should prove a brilliant success. A strong committee of ladies has the supper arrangements well in hand, and the hockey girls are working jat the decorations. which will he a feature of the balk There has been very little entertainment in. Manaia this season for lovers of dancing, so this ball should be very popular, and will have an especial appeal, as the proceeds will go towards providing a good, hockey field and nets. KITCHEN TEA. In view of her approaching marriage to Mr H. GTiffin, a kitchen tea- was tendered to Miss May Straw iat the residence. Normanby Road. A large number of well wishers attended. Elocutionary and vocal items, interspersed with games and dancing, made a fine evening’s enjoyment for all. Many and varied parce's were received, and when unpacked a collection of finst-class articles was revealed, the kitchen outfit being almost complete. Air Muggendge voiced the appreciation of friends concerning the many fine qualities of the esteemed guest of .the evening, and expressed the best wishes of all for future happiness and. prosperity. His remarks were endorsed with the customare musical honours by the gathering. Mr H. Griffin, in responding, thanked all for their kind expressions of goodwill. After supper dancing was kept up’ til] the wee hours of the morning, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne concluded an evening which, should always he remembered with feelings of pleasure by all present.
