throughout the Dominion \vill regret to hear of the death at Nelson this morning of J. W. Milroy, of the Waimea Rifle Club, at the age of 57 years. He was. a. Well-known figure at Trentham and other rifle meetings, and was one of the- most consistent shots in the Dominion, having won the New Zealand Belt in 1905 and, on many occasions, the championship of his club. Ho also represented New Zealand at Bisley in 1905, and at Australia in 1907. He leaves a widow, for whom much sympathy will be felt. Deceased is a brother of Mr. N. Milroy, of Hawera, Up to 1898 there were only schools for boys in Persia, but in that year the first for girls was opened, nominally under an adult teacher, but actually under the eare of a girl of fourteen years, who had started the movement for equal educational rights for all children. ft iis related that- for five years previously she bad attended school with her brothers, dressed as a, boy and had received additional instruction at home. Her mother encouraged her and she opened the .school, -taking care that nothing contrary to the Persian religion was taught there.
