HOUSEHOLD NECESSITIES.

ROME PRICES HARDENING. Householders will have read with interest, and perhaps concern, of the shortage in output of the tea plantations in India, and will no doubt be speculating as to the probable effeet on prices to them. Inquiry from local business men show that so far none of them have had definite advice in the matter, although it was forecasted some little time ago by men in the business. One large importer of Ceylon teas said he was of opinion that it would mean at least twopence per lb on packed teas and perhaps more than that on loose teas.

He also reported that he had received advice of a hardening of prices in vinegar, and that a rise was to be expected of about sixpence .or more per gallon. Most of the supply of vinegar was made in the Dominion.
