LOSS OF M 1

A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT. BOAT BECOMES UNMANAGEABLE A NEWSPAPER’S THEORY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT. (Received Nov. 24, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 23. The Daily Express publishes a letter from one of the crew of the Ml. It was written to his home, and describes an accident which occurred a few weeks previously: “When we dived,” he says, ‘ ‘the motor burned out, causing the hydroplanes to blow out, and the boat became uncontrollable. We were then 30 feet down, and immediately dropped 120 feet. We were still falling when the captain ordered the tanks te he blown up. Then we shot to the surface, after dropping 150 feet.” The Express suggests that a similar accident caused the Ml to rush for the surface* and that while doing so she struck the Vidar with terrific force. — A. and N.Z.
