LOW POWERI WIRELESS RECORD. (by TELEGRAPH FB.ESS ASSOCIATION.) ASHBURTON, July 23. WiLford Al. Dawson, of 3AL, Ashburton, yesterday eclipsed his previous remarkable records on low power short wave wireless by working the amateur station of S2JJA, Air. Waver’s station at Wickford, Essex, England, with a power input of 2.5 watts on a- wave length of 35 metres, approximately equivalent to that consumed in pocket electric torches. The test took place at it most disadvantageous time, after the sun had risen in England. Contact was made at 4.27 p.m., equivalent, to 7 a.m. in England. SENTENCE ON BEITANY. AUCKLAND, July 23. Charles Horace Bethany, hit artist, who was found on two charges of assault on girls, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on the first charge, and admitted to three years’ probation on the second. Air. Poynton, S.M., said the accused’s conduct must have a debasing influence on the minds of young girls, and it was better to keep him on a chain than to vindictively punish him. AIO'RE FLOODS ON THE EAST COAST. WHAKETAINE, July 23 A.s a result of heavy rain inland, 'the Wbakatane River was in flood thus morning and overflowed its banks. Tho roads to Opotiki, Alatata and Rotorua are under water and traffic to these parts has been suspended for the time being. The river is now rapidly «übsiding, and it is expected that traffic will be resumed to-morrow. Although the R.angitaakt River has risen, it has not overflowed. None of the farm lands of the district have been flooded.
