SETTLEMENT REACHED.
NEW PLYMOUTH DISPUTE. MAYOR’S MEDIATION SUCCESSFUL. As briefly announced in yesterday’s late edition, a settlement has been reached at New Plymouth in the waterfront deadlock at that port. The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson), who offered his services as mediator, has been working earnestly towards a settlement, and yesterday morning, obtained an assurance, from. the. leaders of the watersiders that the men would answer all calls for labour under the award. During the day lie also arranged with the, representatives of the shipping companies that cal'lls would be made as usual this morning. ..The shipping in port includes the Corinna, which has on board some produce which is urgently needled in New Plymouth, and this vessel will be worked first. Expeated arrivals within the next few davs tseem to indicate that there will be plenty of work available. 1 WORK RESUMED. A Press Association message received from New Plymouth this morning announced that work had been resumed on the waterfront and wa.s proceeding without incident.
