(Received Aug. 2, 12.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 1. The Australians won the doubles, 6 1, 6 2, 6 —o, and thus defeated China. Patterson and Wood faced Wei and Huang. The latter is a left-hander and has a volcanic drive, but once again the Chinamen could not cope with Patterson’s service, and, moreover, the Australians placed their returns where their opponents Avero unable to reach them. Huang sliOAved that he Avas a player of promise, but in attempting to put a top spin on his shots he droA 7 e them low. In the second set the Australians were at the top of their form. Wood's cross court strokes being both brilliant and effecti\-e. In the third set the Chinamen frequently made fatal mistakes, lobbing into Patterson’s oA 7crliead smashes that never failed.
