Sievers, of Fairfield, whose three cows have this year nrodueed (factory returns) over 1400 Mj of butter-fat. ‘These cons, together with a horse, are pastured on an area of five acres, the whole of their feeding being produced iiom this area. One acre is kent in constant cultivation, oats for s*pring feed, maize, etc., for the autumn, and mangolds for winter being grown, liesides hay being saved from surplus pasture in the summer-time. .Such illustrations of what can he produced from small areas by intense cultivation are illuminating as indicating a remedy for the excess prices at which much of the local land was purchased.
