Christchurcji, This day. Mrs Ernest Patten, a very old Canterbury settler, was taken suddenly ill in the street last night. She was carried into an adjoining shop and died. She had been previously attended by a doctor, who gave a certificate that death resulted from heart disease.

In regard to the fire at the Belfast freezing works, the building destroyed has been accepted as a total loss, tha insurance companies' loss being £1578. The value of the machinery saved has been assessed at £867. A new temporary building is in the course of erection, and the company will be enabled to resume fellmongering this weok.

Last night Messrs J. W. Griffen, A. Locbore, and L. 11. Richards, wbo, afe the Wesleyan Conference sitting, were received into full connection, were ordained.
