Ah! Why?

Bib,—lnquirer asks why is it that if Mr Bees is so unlit to represent this constituency in Parliament, as tbe diatribes of your oou temporary leave one to infer, they take so much trouble about him by making his personal attributes, politically and otherwise, a continuous source of adverse comment ? From whence proceeds this demoralization ? Are the test of principles (nowaday) guaged by the solidarity of £ a and pence. Why should Wrong construction be placed upon statements that bear a very different meaning ! Surely there are some amongst Mr Bees' many supporters who are quite capable of forming a correct judgment as to the nature Of what Mr Bees suggests, and whether these suggestions come within the arena of possibility and probability, and whether they would be at all likely to improve tbe social position of this constituency, yet do not agiee With the overdrawn conclusions of your contemporary, which bear the impress of being mere diatribes. Tbey apparently forget that the logical thinker is sure to discern the difference between a well-weighed fact and a suppositious one, and judge accordingly. However philosophical the individual opinion of your contemporary would persuade its readers its views are, these said views will not stand the test of a plain common sense survey by those who have to pay for this vaunted protest of honor. By all means let your contemporary profit by their own wisdom if that is what they seek, but let them likewise respect the councils of others, since the light of truth will Otten much easier penetrate an empty head than the bead of some that are so crammed with diatribes that there is no room left for common sense.—l am, dko., Sxttub.
