On Friday, Miss New Zealand, Miss Mary Woodward, who is returning home on November IS, made her last official British visit. It. was to the Tower of London. The funeral of the late Mr Will am Smith, of Dobson took place at the Karoro cemetery on Saturday morniim. There was a largo attendance of fellow workers. The services were conducted zy the Rev. B. D. Jamieson of Ahaura. The Infante Carlos de Bourbon, 79-year-old brother-in-law of ex King Alfonso of Spain, and father of the Infante Espernaza, wife of the Pretender to the Spanish Throne, Don Juan, died early on Friday at his home at Avenida de las Palmeras. Air Jack Fraser, who for many vears past has resided at Sydney, where he has been a member of the municipal staff at the Town Hall, and who formerly belonged to Greymouth ,has returned here with the intention of resuming residence in Greymouth. Mr Fraser, who has been absent for more than thirty years, used in his younger days to be a prominent member of the senior team of the Star Football Club, and later took part in the Rugby competitions in! Sydney. The rector of Waitaki Boys’ High School (Mr J. T. Burrows) may resign because of a difference of opinion with the board of governors over the appointment of an assistane master to succeed Mr W. M. Ut.tley, whose retirement was announced recently.
