The Australian Prime Minister,. Mr Chifley, has appealed to Australians to give accommodation in their homes to 80,000 British migrants next year. Mr Chifley said Australia had an immigration opportunity which it should “grasp with both hands”. He said he would announce the details of a new plan in the next few weeks. “This year more than 60,000 British people have begun new lives in Australia. Next year we want to welcome at. least 80,000 more”, added Mr Chilley. Five charges of committing breaches of regulations concerning the drug tincture of opinium were preferred against a firm of Wellington chemists, J. R. Cunningham, Ltd., in the Magistrate’s Court. Pleas of guilty were entered to all charges. The ‘Magistrate adjourned the fixing of a penalty to enable further written submissions to be made. Have you seen Jeff's new bar ? Empire Hotel.
