PRINCE CHARLES’S FIRST BIRTHDAY

(N.Z.F A.—REUTER CABLE) (Rec. 9.30) LONDON, Nov. 13. Prince Charles, who will be one year old on Monday, has already taken his first few steps alone. Prince Charles weighs 2411 b, and he has six teeth. He is tall, fair-haired, and very vigorous. He can speak the usual first three words, “Mummum”, “Papa”, and “Nannan”. The Prince bears no very striking resemblance to either of his parents. He loves music, and he gets excited when military bands pass along the Mall beneath his nursery window. There will be no official celebrations on his birthday to-morrow. He is second in line of succession to the British Throne. He will celebrate his first birthday with a quiet family party at his London home in Clarence House. Princess Elizabeth has planned a party in the blue and gold drawing room, and an iced birthday cake will be cut in the baby Prince’s honour. ,

Prince Charles spent most of his first year like any other babyasleep. Photographs and reports show him to be a growing, sturdychild with an evident character. His father, the Duke of Edinburgh, will net be at the party. The family will have a reunion when Princess Elizabeth and Prince Charles fly to Malta, where the Duke is on naval duty on November 19. November 20 is their wedding anniversary.
