Hospital Board Changes Name of Home to “Tasman”

After several suggestions had been discussed it was decided at last evening’s meeting of the Grey Hospital Board to call the building formerly known as the Old People’s Home, the Tasman Home, Greymouth. Mr W. Gutberlet moved that it be called the Grey Valley Rest Home. This was seconded by Mr W. Fisher. Mr A. Dalziell moved an amendment that it be called the Tasman Home. This was seconded by Mrs D. M. Parfitt. The amendment was carried by six votes to two. Mr Gutberlet said that the Brunner Mine Workers’ Union wished the Board to be notified of their intention of purchasing a wheel chair similar to the one provided by the Grey Valley Miners’ Union, and donate it to the Board. The Union was prepared to pay up to £35. The chairman, Mr J. E. Stokes, moved that a letter of thanks and appreciation be sent to the Brunner Mine Workers’ Union. He also moved that the Board purchase a similar chair, both motions being seconded by Mrs D M. Parfitt.
