Suez Canal Hindrances Are Alleged
CAIRO, Oct. 9 Russia and Italy have protested to the Egyptian Government against “hindrances” to their shipping in the Suez Canal zone. The Soviet protest, which was lodged by the Russian Legation in Cairo, was over the reported refusal of the Egyptian authorities at Port Said to allow .the Soviet motor-ship Dmitri Donskoy (5064 tons) to be supplied with food and medicine on the ground that the ship had called at Haifa. The Italian complaint alleged that the “harsh treatment” and control imposed on Italian! ships in the Canal zone was causing great harm and trouble to the Italian export, and import trade.
