REEFTON NOTES

The West port Savage Club visited R'eefton on Saturday, giving two peiformances of thei" revue “Hot News . Although the matinee was not very largely attended, the hall was filled to capacity io the evening. This show is considered to have been one of the best to have visited Reefton, and was a credit to its all-male cast. Reefton residents came in for most of the wise-cracks of the evening, which, of course, brought applause from the audience. Mi' C. Coxali presented bouquets to the seven “ladies”, four ballet “girls” and three ladies in character, who in return expressed “heartfelt thanks.” Reefton District High School held a fancy dress ball on I 1 riday night. Although rain fell continuously during the evening a large crowd attended. There was a spectacular array of fancy 'costumes. The .hall was colourfully decorated. The music was provided by local artists. •Mr Lyng, the Headmaster, expressed thanks to those who helped in connection with the Ball especially the mothers, who had put a great deal of work into the Children’s costumes. He also thanked Misses Bell, and Archer, who had helped with this annual event over a long period. Mr Lyng paid a special tribute to Mr Harris for the splendid work he had done during his term of office in Reefton and mentioned that he had now secured a position as senior teacher in Motueka. Mr S: C. Robinson (secretary of the Reefton School Committee) endorsed the remarks of previous speakers, whilst Mr Harris thanked both speakers for their good wishes in his promotion. Master Robin Curtis and Miss Margaret Woods, on behalf of the school children, presented a small gift to Mrs Archer senior, who has been pianist for the infant classes at this annual function for many years. An excellent supper was provided in the Band Room by a ladies committee. Dancing for the adults continued into the early hours of the morning.
