REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]

Mr Lamas, of Christchurch, is visiting his son, Mr H. Lamas, Buller Road.

Arrangements are well in hand for the Reefton District High School's annual fancy dress ball which is to be held on Monday night. A canvass of the town will be made in the afternoon for the usual donations.

Mesdames Sharpe, Kearns, Yellowlees and Eklund, members of the Reefton Women’s Institute left last Tuesday with a travel group sponsored by the West Coast Federation of Institutes, for Southland, via the Lewis Pass.

The Reefton Nursery Play Centre has had to postpone its annual meeting until Tuesday October 11 at 7.30 p.m., at the Plunket Room, owing to the small attendance of mothers. The committee feels that if more support is not) forthcoming it will be compelled to cease functioning. This would be a great pity. The centre has been in operation for five years now. Equipment has been built up and the pre-school children, two to five years, can spend a happy time each Friday afternoon. The mother is thus freed of responsibility for shopping or visiting friends. An appeal to all young or anyone interested to come along next Tuesday is made by the centre. For Waitahu Ladies’ Golf Club bogey match to be played on Saturday, the draw is:—Senior: Mrs Strachan, Mrs Blackmore, Mrs Guy; Miss King. Mrs August, Mrs Patterson; Mrs Crossman. Mrs Dobson, Miss O’Grady; Mrs Archer, Miss Williams, Mrs Wills; Mrs Bisset, Mrs Millar. Junior: Mrs Cunniffe, Mrs Marshall, Miss Lockington; Miss Archer, Mrs Panckhurst, Miss Patterson; Mrs Roberts, Mrs Cambell, Mrs Cutbush; Mrs F. Handicap reductions: Cutbush to 13; J. Barnett to 18; Cartwright to 18. Matches to be played on Saturday are: Semi-final, junior championship: K. Patterson v. Lulham. Semi-final Brewery Cup: Porter and Humphries v. Doyle and Weir. On Sunday there will be a President’s v. Captain’s teams match (four-ball) for those not taking part in any championship matches. Sunday: Final Osborne Rose Bowl: K. Patterson v. Buckley. Semi-final senior championship: Porter v. McVicar. Semi-final Brewery Cup: August and Barnett v. Osborne and Lulham.
