AUCKLAND GAMES

AUCKLAND, Oct. 4

Entries for the Empire Games at Auckland in February are likely to be the biggest ever, according to the organising secretary, Mr C. L. Cleal. He said this to-day replying to suggestions from overseas that a shortage of funds might prevent Empire countries from sending full teams. Although the entries clo not. close until October 31, nine countries have already officially advised that they are sending teams totalling 319, plus officials.

Mr Cleal stated that New Zealand’s expected 160 entries would lake the total to 509, compared with the previous highest of 507 at the last games in Sydney in 1938. Seven other countries had reported that they are sending teams, although the numbers have not yet been stated.
