WATAROA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent) Mr Shepherd of the Department, of Agriculture was in Wataroa during the- week making arrangements for the visit of lecturers during the month of June, when they will spend approximately two days with the farming community. Several tractors with cho latos; mowers are at work in the district at present, while discing and top-dress-ing is being done extensively. The full effects of the wintry weather are being experienced just now. with sunny days and cold frosty mornings. . Group t aval to the Glaciers continues to be extremely popular, ihe roads are in good order, but would be much improved if tar sealing were done, now that traffic is so heavy. The feed for the ducks has been good, and the condition of the birds when the season opens on Saturda?/ next promises to be excellent. Mr Alf Purcell, Hokitika, visited Okarito on Sunday, with Mr Geoftrev Friend, who has been on holiday for a couple of weeks. . Mr A. Dehn and his son were visitors on Sunday to the Forks. Mr ami Mrs G. Middloditch have returned after a month s holiday’. Mr and Mrs Gilmore and family, of Wellington, are taking over the Okarito hotel, the present proprietors of which. Mr and Mrs Rodgers are -leaving for Christchurch. Timhave been a popular couple here and lake with them the good wishes of hosts of friends in the district. The hotel at the Forks is shortly to be renovated, enlarged and remodelled.
