HOKITIKA NOTES

Miss M. Harvey Smith L.R.A.M., a niece of Mrs F. Wail, , left this morning to .join the Dominion Monarch on return to Cape Lown. She has spent several months in New Zealand with Mr and Mis F. Wall, of Hall Street, Hokitika, also with Mr and Mis George Nelson, of Havelock North.

m response to a .joint letter sent by the chairman of tne Hoknika Arts council (Dr D. D. Lynessi • and the Mayor (Mr A. E. Perry >, Lroiessor Shelley, uirector of Broadcasting, replied that, should the National Orchestra come to Hokitika, it was likely that clay-time performances for schools would be given. Appreciation of the offer of assistance in the event of such a visit being arranged was expressed. If the orchestra was visiting the West Coast it was hoped to include both towns in the itinerary. , . Flooding has been reported in South Westland as a result of the heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
