JURY CONVICTS ON CHARGE OF INDECENT ASSAULT ON CHILD
P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH Feb 22. Five hours after retirement, a jury returned a verdict of guilty of indecent assault on a girl of seven years, against Bernard Walter Croot, aged 21, in the Supreme Court at New Plymouth tonight. The offence was committed at the child’s home at Stratford. There were also counts of attempted carnal knowledge, indecent assault, and an indecent act in respect of a sister, aged nine years. The jury was unable to agree on these six counts. On the application of the Crown prosecutor, Mr Justice Gresson fixed a new trial on these counts.
