£1,500 Netted In Victorian Bank Robbery

MELBOURNE, Oct 27. Determined thieves, who burned their way into the strongroom with oxy-acetylene gear, netted £l5OO in a daring raid on the E.S. and A. Bank at Ferntree Gully, 20 miles from Melbourne. The robbery was discovered when the bank staff arrived in the morning. The thieves must have spent almost a day on the job. _ Thev. had climbed to the roof, ripped off sheets of galvanised iron and lowered themselves into the bank below. Iron bars were removed from the front door ana oxyacetylene gear brought in. This was used to cut a lareg hole into the strongroom and burn open an inner safe. Experts estimate that this must have taken at least seven hours.
