Racing Notes

By Galtee Moore Most of the progeny of Dink handle soft tracks and Rating is no exception, the son of that good mare of the gay 90’s. Every Port looks sure to salute the judge over the EllerslrCarnival. Lady Fane is a flying machine. This classy young lass, a daughter of Paper Slipper, has inherited all her Daddy’s speed. What a great race it will be between her and Whitley over the six furlongs to-day. Belmoral keeps on getting scratched but the punters still keep on waiting. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and if he is produced at Waikato to-day he will be everybody’s dandy. Commotion should atone to-day. It would be hard to pick any to beat him. Erin’s Pal will be all the rage at Foxton and he looks the bet of the day. Master Robin ran a great fourth in the sprint at Otaki. Peter Louis rep looks like bringing home the Cup. Commander Scott looks like emulating the deeds of his renowned relatives and the Kekerangu Handicap to-day may be the stepping store to greater deeds. Detain has now shown that he is well worthy of inclusion in open company and he is sure to win some big events before he is mucn older. French Knight stands out In the steeples and looks to have a mortgage on the event. Early Night has been racing very consistently of late and today will give him a golden opportunity to do his genial owner, the Westport sportsman, Tom Han&by, a goon turn. It will take a good hack to beat him over the mile.

The Cobden sportsman, Mr J. McMillan has a very promising mare Perinnell by Oriele-Crystal Bell. She has shown exceptional ability in her training essays. Recently a cold caused a set back in her preparation but she is now a daily visitor’ to E. F. Higgins’ private track on the Cobden Island and is being given fast work in view of approaching engagements. Her veteran trainer believes in adapting a patient policy and as most of her breed com? right with age, his judgement is sound and he makes no secret cf the fact that he expects her to win her way to the Canterbury courses in the near future.
