Air Transport for Horses

A regular air-freighting service for racehorses is expected to be brought into operation by Trans-Australian Airlines early in July, and this may easily prove a forerunner for a transTasman service in the not-far-distant future says a northern exchange. Technicians are workiig on the conversion of several DC3 passenger aircraft to goods and livestock transport. The evenness of flying weather between Sydney and Melbourne and Sydney-Brisbane ensures popularity of the service with horse owners and trainers. T.A.A. officials look forward to the day when horses may be flown to races at Flemington and brought back the same night. They expect many advance bookings for the Melbourne Cup meeting, which will be the first major carnival after the service is instituted.

Collapsible stalls similar to those used with success- in England, probably will be used in the T.A.A. transport. They provide maximum accommodation and make loading simple.
