LAND SALES CONTROL FAVOURED IN AUSTRALIA

CANBERRA, May 22. “Very definite favouritism” has been shown some applicants, and as a result, the head of the Land Sales Control Administration in Sydney had been changed. This was revealed by the Prime Ministei’ (Mr. J. B. Chifley) in replying to charges by Mr. J. T. Lan-g that the present administration methods provided unprecedented opportunities for graft and corruption. Mr. Chifley said that in that department the inquiry was still proceeding. Charges of corruption against certain officers of the prices branch in Sydney were being investigated by the Attorney-General’s department. Similar charges relating to men of the Customs Department were before the Court. Allegations concerning sales by the Disposals Commission had been disproved by an independent investigator, and the Government was satisfied that there was no corruption.
