Point Won By A.C.T.U. in Court On Wage-hours Issues

(Rec. 10.40). MELBOURNE, March 19

’The Full Arbitration Court decided to-day that the basic wage case and the forty hour week case would be heard separately. The Australasian Council of Trade Unions had decided to take no part in the wages case if there were a joint hearing. Last week the Council, on a summons taken out in the Full High Court, secured a verdict that the Acting Chief Judge was not the sole controller of the procedure in the Court. To-day’s decision by the Arbitration Court was a majority one, the Acting Chief Judge dissenting.

(Rec. 9.5). SYDNEY, March 18. Without discussion, the Forty Hours Bill passed its third reading in the Legislative Council this afternoon, and it now automatically becomes law.
