Pigeon Caught By S.S. Omana Far Out to Sea

The steamer Omana when she arrived here earlier’ this week brought a homing or carrier pigeon which two members of the crew. Messrs A. Svendsqn and D. Rae, caught on the vessel last Saturday when she was eighty miles south-west of North Cape. It was marked “AKA 36,” and may have been engaged in a race, as one was flown cn Saturday from Feilding. Anyway, the pigeon did not remain here. It was cared for on the ship until yesterday, when it escaped, and after making a flight back to the vessel, set off in a northerly direction. It may thus find its way home, but if it is found anywhere the Omana’s crew would be glad to have word of it.
