Trout Stranded On West Coast

Usually described as the “Wet West Coast,” Westland is at present passing through a period in which the province has literally hot enough water for fish to live in. A message received from the Grey District Acclimatisation last night stated that the smaller streams in the Otira area had dried up t,o such an extent that they had become merely a chain of pools and the heat of the sun on the still water had caused the temperature to rise to such an extent that trout were dying. Work was commenced yesterday in the Kotuku area, where 230 trout were rescued from smaller streams, and placed in running water. The association regards the position as serious, and has issued a request, that any persons knowing the whereabouts of stranded trout immediately get in touch _ with the president. of the association, Mr H. Roberts (Dobson), or Mr M. R. Bunt Greymouth.
