FOOD SUPPLIES
AUSTRALIA’S FINE ACHIEVEMENT.
CANBERRA, Feb. 21
Australia’s food exports to Britain rose from 163,000 tons in 1945 to 350,000 tons last year. Australia’s food shipments to all countries last year more than doubled those of the previous year, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Hoi?. Mr Pollard. To the end of 1946 Australia had exported 1,900,000 tons of foodstuffs to other countries, excluding shipments to military forces. The shipments in 1946 included 1,208,000 tons to Empire countries other than Britain and 175,000 tons to the Pacific Islands and New Zealand. The inability of the British Food Ministry to provide sufficient refrigeration space for some foods had limited the exports.
