ATHLETICS

PROPOSED VISIT OF U.S. TEAM P.A. WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. Acknowledgment of a letter received recently from the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States, in answer to an inquiry into the possibility of American service athletes competing in the Dominion during t he coming Summer, was made at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The letter stated that the American Army planned an all-service meeting at Manila last December, and it was likely that some of the winners might be given an opportunity to compete in the Dominion. The chairman, Mr. H. I. Austed, said he did not expect any visiting teams this year, but it was very likely in the 1947 season. A motion that United States, England, South Africa, Canada, and Australia be written to and asked about the types of athletes available to come to the Dominion, was carried.
