WESTPORT NOTES
fOur Own Correspondent] WESTPORT, May 12. The Rata sailed last night for Nelson, after being loaded and ready to sail since Tuesday afternoon. The Titoki sailed this morning for Tarakohe. The Wingatui and Kaimai, for Wellington, are expected to sail to-morrow. Mrs J'. Ward, Fairdown, nas returned from a visit to Falmerston N< Mrs F. Moss, Christchurch, is visiting Mrs T. Gleh. . Mr and Mrs Johansen have arrived from Inchbonnie, Mr Johansen having been appointed headmaster at Sergeant's Hill primary school. Miss M. Mullan has arrived from the North Island on a visit to her mother, Mrs B. Morley, Russell Street. „ . , The Nelson Air Force Band arrived last evening on a visit to Westport, and this morning were to have given a marching display in Palmerston Street but owing to rain this was cancelled. The visit was made in connection with the Victory Loan. Ram again interfered with the mai ching display and musical programme which was arranged, in conjunction with the Westport Boys’ Band, to be held during the afternoon at Victoria Square. On Sunday afternoon the two bands are to provide a musical programme at Victoria Square, and the visiting band will leave later loi Nelson. After a. week of fine weather, rain set in this morning, interfering with sporting fixtures arranged for the All coal mines in the Buller district recommenced operations yesterday after the victory celebrations, and worked to-day also, it being back Saturday.
