OPENING TO-DAY

1945 VICTORY LOAN A Good Start Expected CALL TO ALL CLASSES. P.A. WELLINGTON, May 13. In announcing the opening of the 1945 Victory Loan subscriptions tomorrow (Monday) morning, the Acv-inp-Prime Minister, Hon. W. Nash, stated that the objective, of the National War Loan Council . was one which, if realised, would bring again to New Zealand credit of a type which had brought New Zealand sucn great respect throughout the world of nations. “The objective of the Council, continued Mr Nash, “was to attain half of the sum required on the. first day. It is expected that this will be realised. But there is something more required. Would it be possible for New Zealand,” he asked, “to even do better than was announced the other day as having been done by the citizens of Russia? These people, on the spot, whilst still fighting, raised 25,000 million roubles in two days. New Zealand, never beaten, can do the same, if it will let us once again be an example to the' world.” THE LOAN CAMPAIGN OPENING. A gathering on the steps of Parliament Buildings at 12.30 p.m. on Monday is the national send off to the District Loan Committees, on whose enthusiasm the whole result depends, and radio broadcasting will enable listening groups to be formed,! whereever facilities are given. To the workers of th e Dominion, their contributions to war loans, states the National War Loan Council, have been substantial. The benefit is two-fold. Above all, the widespread backing" of war finance by the people of every in the community, is a very practical and heartening tribute to the men and women of the fio-hting services. In the second place, the saving, by the investment of surplus purchasing power, in this period of short supply of commodities, removes the danger of inflation. As one eminent economist I has expressively put it, “inflation lets the people spend as much as before, but sees that they get less for it.”
