LEND-LEASE HOLD UP

Shipments to Russia (Rec. 7.50). WASHINGTON, May 13. The suspension of America’s lendlease shipments to Russia, pending a review of the whole programme, has been disclosed to-night by the Foreign Economic Adminisffator, Mr Leo Crowley. Mr Crowley said: “Lend-lease is purely an instrument for the running of the war. Accordingly, it is necessary, with the end of hostilities in Europe, to review the lend-lease pro-, grammes, so that American resources will he distributed to make the utmost possible contribution to victory in the major war which we have still to win.” Mr Crowley added: “Such a reexamination or review is now taking place. Fending its completion, ne v shipments to Europe are neing held up, except those for countries that now: are at war against Japan, or for countries through which + he redeployment of our troops will be facilitated.”
