I The Holmlea completed loading last niaht and sailed this morning, for /Wanganui. The Wingatui is due on Thursday from Wellington to load coal and return. _ Messrs Cummings and Johnson (school inspectors) are visiting the Mrs E. B. McDonald (Dunedin) is visiting Mrs W. D. Wilson, Queen Street. Mr. M. R- Aldridge (Chieft Postmaster, Greymouth), left on return to ’ Greymouth, after visiting Westport. Mr M. 'Foreman left yesterday for Greymouth after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Foreman. Mr. and Mrs. H. Hazman (Fapanui) are visiting Westport. Mrs. J. Stevenson (Nelson) a' former resident, was a visitor at the week-end. Mr A. Berdinner (Stockton) left today to join the Teachers’ Training College at Christchurch. Mr. H. Telford left on return to Wellington yesterday. Mr J. McFarlane left for Wellington yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. G. Martin left on return to Greymouth yesterday. Hon. C. F. Skinner (Minister of Rehabilitation) is visiting the Buller district. He was accorded a civic reception at the Friendly Societies Hall last evening by the Mayor (Mr. J. M. Robertson), after which the minister gave an address. To-day the minister and party made an insepction of the Carpentry TrainingSchool, dairy factory, State flaxmill, pipe and brick works at Waimangaroa, and the open cast mine at Stockton, and the lime works at Cape Foulwind. A public dinner was tendered the Minister this evening. Investments in National Savings last week amounted to £649, £299 in excess of the quota. The investments at the district office with the office quota in parenthesis were:—Westport £291 (£255); Granity £322 (£50); Denniston £ll (£32); Karamea £25 (£l3). The Westport Cricket team played Murchison at Murchison on Sunday and were defeated by an innings and 51 runs. Murchison batting first compiled 133 runs, of which R. Winfield made 99. Westport in the first innings were all out for 18, and following on were dismissed for 64. R. Matthews (9) and (16) and R. Eyes (4 and 12) were the only batsmen to make any showing against a strong bowling side.
