SUGAR COUPONS TO BE RETAINED P.A. DUNEDIN. March 18 As regards sugar rationing, although the Otago Grocers’ Association has not acted in the matter, it is understood that grocers generally in this city and in some country districts will refuse to cut. out sugar coupons, their general opinion being that the edict is inimical to public welfare. WELLINGTON WATER P.A. WELLINGTON, March 17 Negotiations have been completed between th e Government and Wellington City Council and Suburban Water Supply Board, regarding major water supply from the main Hutt River, according to an announcement by the Minister of Works (Mr. Semple). The work when completed would provide a minimum of eleven million gallons daily partly to Wellington and partly to suburban areas, contiguous to the city, which had either insufficient or no permanent water supply. The Mayor' (Mr. Appleton) in a statement made at the same time as Mr. Semple’s, said it now seemed an early start would be made on the scheme and there was a possibility of the new supply being available in 1948.
