The proposition, “That the Pacific bases at presen' occupied by the United States should be ceded to them,” was affirmed by United, and denied by Runanga, who were declared the winners. Speakers were: Runanga, A. Keown 30, W. Williams 37, Robt. M-cTaggart 32 and J. Kellv 37. United, D. Mclvor 35, N. Kilgour 33, R. Mitchell 28, H. W. Hay 31. In the second debate Runanga affirmed and United denied, “That the Invercargill system of liquor control should be instituted throughout New Zealand.” United won the debate. Their speakers were: H. A. S. Rollinson 41, H. Stiles 36, R. P. Chibnall 32 and T. Learmont 34. Runanga speakers were: Ron McTaggart 35, H. Webb 29, F. Baxendale 32 and S. Braithwaite 35. Mr P. Heath was judge.
