Mr R. Kelleher, West Coast representative for J. J. Niven and Co., Christchurch, for the past 17 years, has resigned his position with that firm, and is taking up business on his own account in Christchurch.

Mr Thomas Finerty, of Te Kinga, whose death at (he age of 56 occurred at Greymouth recently, had worked in the Te Kinga ditrict for the past seven or eight years as a sawmill engine driver. Mr Finerty leaves his wife and an adult family living in Christchurch.

Among recipients of certificates of commendation for outstanding services awarded by the United States Army to fourteen members of a New Zealand Air Force fire crew in subduing a fire in a petrol dump on April 17 last on Bougainville Island, is L.A.C. F. L. Tuhuru, of Hokitika.

Inspector L. W. Reid, who is to succeed Inspector J. Linford as Health Inspector at Greymouth, was on Thursday evening appointed Sanitary Inspector for the Greymouth Borough. A letter was received by the Council from Mr Linford, expressing appreciation of the goodwill shown him during his term here, and. it was decided to write to him expressing appreciation of his services.

Mr E. Latimer, Railway Workshops Foreman at Greymouth, who will leave on Tuesday on transfer to the Hillside workshops, Dunedin, as machine shop foreman, was met this week by members of the workshops’ staff and Locomotive Foreman’s office. The sub-foreman, Mr T. Oxenham, presided and expressed the good wishes of the gathering to Mr and Mrs Latimer, other speakers being IVlessrs Sweetman, Dunn, Crisp, McLean, Cahill, Hopkinson, Dixon, Shuker, Brown and Leeming. Mr Latimer was presented with a purse of notes, while both Mr and Mrs Latimer received bowling measures. Mr Latimer briefly replied, expressing appreciation of the loyal support be had had. Mr V. H. Conway, formerly of the Addington workshops, who succeeds Mr Latimer, was present .and was welcomed.
