SCHOOLS’ RUGBY TOURNEY

SEDDON SHIELD DISTRICTS The West Coast Rugby Union Executive last evening made fhial arrangements for the Seddon Shieiu districts’ schools tournament to be held in Greymouth during the term holidays next week. A discussion took place regarding billets for the boys. Sixty billets are still required and the Union ana Schools Sports’. Association make an urgent appeal for Greymouth students to display the same hospitality at that which is customary at other Seddon Shield district centres on the occasion of their tournaments. Next Monday’s rail-car will be conveying the teams to Greymouth from the North, there being over eighty to arrive, the Buller team coming in the morning, and the Marlborough, Golden Ba v and Nelson teams in the evening. Those willing to billet one or more boys are asked to advise the Union Secretary, the School Sports’ Association secretary, or the masters of any of the schools of the district. The Buller primary schools’ representatives to take part in the tournament has been selected as follows: — Mclntyre, Dent, Spence, White, Sara, Caldwell, Carlsen, Stephens, Dixon, P. Stuart, Mockett, Lowe, Douglas, Luff, Byrne, Bowater, R. Stuart, Rattray, and Chester. The following have been selected to represent the Buller primary schools in the South Island primary schools tournament at Christchurch during the term holidays:— Heavy weights (limit Bst. 81bs.): — B. WEST COAST UNION At last evening’s meeting the W.C.R’.U. made arrangements for Millerton to olav Star-United here next Saturday. It was decided .to offer the Air Force team at Christchurch a date at Greymouth any time after September 9. It was decided that the following nominations be forwarded for the South Island team: Backs, J. Lindbom, W. McHugh; forwards, R. Birchfield, J. Pegley. It was decided to select 25 to 30 players to train for final selection of the Seddon Shield team, and Mr R. R. King was appointed as coach. The following fixtures were made for Saturday:— Senior: Millerton (Westport) v. Star-United, Park No. 1, 3 p.m. (N. Eggleton); Cobden v. Blaketown, Park No. 2, 3 p.m. (E. O. Harding); Celtic v. Hokitika, at Hokitika.
