JAP SOUVENIRS

LEFT FOR AUSSIES.

(Rec. 9.30)

SYDNEY, July 4.

Treasure trove for souvenir hunters was left behind by Japanese when they hasitlv evacuated Hansa Bay, New Guinea, before Australians captured that base last week. As well as a great quantity of war equipment, the Japanese left behind much-prized battle flags and officers’ swords. One flag, that of an enemy naval landing unit, is a particularly handsome piece of work, and should be worth at least thirty pounds. Embellished Japanese officers’ ceremonial swords once had a market value of many pounds, but this increased supply has reduced their sales value to half the former figure.
