U.S.A. Post-war Problem
WASHINGTON, Jan. 8. The U.S.A. Secretary for Labour, Miss Perkins, in her annual report said: Jobs may have to be found tor Sixty million persons after the war to maintain America’s standards and her expanding economy. Miss Perkins has suggested the following steps to facilitate the orderly return ot the industrial population to peacetime conditions: (1) The forbidding of women minors io work over eight hours a day. (2) The elimination of Sunday work, holiday work and overtime work. (3) The extension of the social security system to all workers, including the war veterans. (4) The establishment of public works where private employment is not available. (5) The encouragement of the purchase of consumers goods, like refrigerators, furniture, automobiles and vacuum cleaners.
