.[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, Dec. 21. Private E. Bailey arrived this evening to spend leave with his ■f a t hpr Mr J Fleming, Stock Inspector, was in .Reelton to-day on Departmental business. n Tne citizens of the district will not be favoured with the usual Christmas carols -by the Hand this year, owing to insufficient players being available. An endeavour is being made to play a programme on New Year’s Eve when the Band will be augmented byi visiting bandsmen.. Mr. A. Stanley left this morning on a visit to Auckland. Motorists are complaining about the growth of broom and blackberry which obscures their vision at several railway crossings, especially Brown Creek. One motorist had a narrow escaoe the other day, when a special train came along unexpectedly. Tennis players were favoured with ideal weather conditions over the week-end and the Reef ton Club’s courts were well patronised. Championship Button matches resulted: F. Archer and Sharpe (holders) defeated Patterson and Turner 9/2, and lost to A. Archer and Woods 5/9. In ■i Hubbard Button match, Miss Bremner and Turner (holders) warded ott a challenge bv Miss O’Malley and Cooper 7/4. Balls are still unprocurable locally and the shortage has novz become acute. As their manufacture has been permitted, and so many controlling authorities have a finger in the pie, it is discouraging that the time, factor seems to have been overlooked. _____
