RUNANGA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent], The Runanga Girls’ Concert Party have sent a parcel to each Runanga serviceman overseas, and have given 10s to the next of kin of each local prisoner of war, while a balance, amounting to over £6 was given, per medium of the Party’s energetic young secretary (Miss Jean Wright) to the Runanga Welcome Home Fund Committee. The patriotic effort of the girls reflects on them every credit, while their thoughtful gesture is much anpreciated by the Welcome Home Fund Committee, This hard working group have had to rely almost entirely upon their own efforts to build up a fund which is devoted entirely to the welfare of local returned men or the relatives, of those who fall in the fight for freedom. They have given a donation to each returned man and when the war is over the fund will be equally divided among the returned men and the next of kin of the fallen. In an interview some of the Committee stated that thev fully appreciated the many calls that were being made upon, the public pocket at the present time, but thev regretted to sav that balls which they run for the fund were not patronised by the local dancers as thev might be. Greymouth dancers came in force every time, and ns every pennv taken was devoted to the local servicemen, a little better patronage from the local dancers would not be amiss.
